Volunteering
Herne Bay Sailing Club Volunteering Mission Statement
Many Hands Make Great Sailing
Volunteering is the beating heart of our club.
It keeps our sailing safe, fun, and thriving.
When we all lend a hand, we share the load and make every day on the water that bit better.
We would like to invite all members to join in and help with a few core duties during the season
Together, we make great sailing happen.
Volunteering means:
- Safe sailing every boat supported, every sailor protected.
- Better events well-run races and great days on the water.
- Shared ownership every member helping to make great sailing happen.
As a member-run organisation, it's the shared effort of our members that keeps sailing alive.
When more of us get involved, we share the load, strengthen our community, and create the kind of sailing days that make this club special.
Every race, training session, and social sail depends on volunteers giving a little of their time so everyone can enjoy a great day on the water.
Whether you sail every week, crew occasionally, or simply enjoy being part of the club, your help keeps our sailing safe, fun, and thriving.
When we all lend a hand, we build friendships and make every sailing day that bit better.
Together, we create the kind of club we're proud to belong to one where everyone plays a part in making great sailing possible.
Why It Matters
The Sailing Committee's role is to ensure every sailing day is safe, enjoyable, and well run.
That only works when we all play a part.
Volunteering isn't about ticking boxes it's about helping each other and keeping our sailing thriving.
A core duty is one that is required for a sailing activity to run safely and effectively.
- Can sailing take place safely without this role?
(e.g. properly crewed safety boat) - Does it add real value to the event?
(e.g. Race Officer running fair, enjoyable races) - Does it support the club's income?
(e.g. bar or galley helping fund our activities)
Core duties make sailing possible.
By sharing these responsibilities across our whole membership, we ensure sailing stays safe, welcoming, and rewarding for everyone.
Looking Ahead
We would like to invite all members whether you sail, crew, or simply enjoy being part of the club, to support our sailing by helping with FOUR core duties during the season.
Every bit of help counts. When many people give a little time, we can run more safe, enjoyable sailing days and continue to build the kind of club we're all proud to belong to.
Together, we make it happen.
