Welcome to edition 71 of the Bulletin, the regular communication keeping you informed of things happening at HBSC.

Message From Commodore

Thank you to all who attended or gave their apologies for the AGM held on Sunday. The AGM is such an important part of running the club it was great to see and hear your thoughts.

I would like to thank Richard and other general committee members who stood down for their commitment and service to the club. I particularly appreciate the time commitment Richard has made over his tenure.

It is a privilege to be Commodore after 42 years of being associated with the club. In my time I have been Treasurer, Sailing Sec and run the cadets with the support of Maria.

I'm pleased to announce Jonathan Dunn as Vice Commodore, Guy Alexander as Rear Commodore (Buildings) have stepped forward to support the club. I am still looking for a Hon Secretary. There are two aspects to the role. Firstly, to support the general committee in arranging meetings and taking minutes. The second aspect is to make sure we submit records to companies' house, charity commissioners and other in a timely fashion. Full support and training will be provided, but if two individuals could come forward it will make running the club much easier.

We heard the challenges we face as a club, particularly financial and membership levels, but I am optimistic that drawing upon our strengths we can increase the level of engagement with the club and the range of activities on offer. I am keen we build on our four core activities, Training, Cadets, General Sailing/cruising and Racing. If you have ideas or want to get involved please discuss with Karl Royer, Sailing Sec, or myself.

In the meantime, I appreciate all the support members provide in running the club and if you can offer some time to help, I know it would be appreciated by all, feel free to contact me 07946 152314.

Saturday 2pm start - Improvers, Open Sailing and Cadets - booking required!

Cadets:
- please use SCM to book in your young sailors so we can plan ahead
- now the weather is cooling down please ensure your child is wearing suitable clothing. It always feels cooler on the water and there is a high chance of getting wet so wetsuits are advised. These can be borrowed from the club free of charge and can be found in the sail store. Please arrive a little earlier to allow time for selecting and trying on. On windier days a rain jacket is also a good idea. Have a look on Vinted for affordable secondhand gear including wetsuits and wet boots, buoyancy aids, rash vests, spray tops and gloves.

Please speak to Janine if you need any advice on clothing and what to wear.

Improvers: You must sign up on SCM to book your place so ensure that we can resource this safely.

Sunday 22nd September - 3 races 2pm start

Race Officer, Assistant race officer, safety boar helm and crew needed please otherwise the racing cannot go ahead.

Boat Maintenance

The sailing committee have introduced a new boat maintenance reporting system. Below is the QR code for HBSC dingy maintenance group, for those who are willing to help with boat maintenance. It is also the method to report any faults with any of the club boats. There is a designated white board in the main club house for reporting faults - please write the fault on here, take a photo of it and send to the whatsApp group.

The Sailing Committee are also looking at running monthly boat maintenance sessions either on Friday evenings or on Saturdays - if interested, please join the WhatsApp group and express your interest - thank you.

Saturday Sailing donation pot

There is going to be a voluntary donation pot for anyone who use club boats on Saturdays for cadets or training. This is so that we can start to build some funds to help maintain and grow our fleet.

100 club

Pete and Lian Bradshaw have kindly offered to run the 100 club - thank you! Please bear with them as they set up a new bank account for this. Once this is done, they will be able to invite anyone who would like a number - watch this space for more details soon.
