June 25 Splash

Published 10:50 on 11 Jun 2025

Welcome to the new Monthly Splash email. Jo Norrington has done a brilliant job producing this weekly, and for that, I am most appreciative. Going forward, we will have a monthly splash highlighting activities and news for the following month. If there is anything important, we will issue a News Flash email during the month.

Our Club

Volunteering is the heart of our club; it's great to see so many activities being run by volunteers. Over the last month, I want to give a shout-out to:

The instructors for running a successful Level 1 course.

Jo Norrington & Maria Golton for a very successful Barn Dance, where over 30 people danced the night away.

Adrian Pinn for producing a printed version of Splice

Linda Vernon for stepping up as galley co-ordinator; this means we can run the galley with her new L2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate.

Thanks also go to all those who volunteered for Cadets and racing.

So you want to Buy a Boat? 7PM Friday 27 June

We understand the nervousness of spending money on a boat when you may not be confident about which boat to buy and what you are looking at before you do. We are running a session to answer these questions as part of the Bar Theme Night 7 PM, 27 June. Several club members are also offering to support you in this first step to Happy Sailing Days. This help includes viewing boats with you, providing a car with a towbar, and general support in rigging for the first time.

Learning as a sailing community

Going forward I'm looking to produce a Rota to support improvers, I will be taking part and wondered who else might find time on Saturday mornings to share their joy of sailing and helping others improve. The improvers session will be run to allow new, and more experienced sailors to receive support in developing their skills, but is not a replacement for formal training.

Other learnings from this past month are:

Remember the slipway is stronger than a prop.

The slipway is very slippery now, and with an injury occurring, volunteers to help jet wash the slipway would be welcome - reach out if you are able to help to Brian or Karl Royer.

What does June hold for us?

Cadet racing (at the same time as club racing) Sunday 15th June

Cadets' sessions continue Janine Pommer leading

5 Racing Days are programmed Sailing Committee leading

Summer Solstice celebration on 21 June from 4pm onwards, BYO BBQ so please bring your own food to put on the club BBQ / ovens.

Happy sailing!

Brian
