Cadets
When
Saturdays 1-5pm, afloat 2-4pm
Format:
Following RYA syllabus with ongoing assessment (TBC). No formal courses/assessment sessions.
Criteria:
Age 7 -18 child or grandchild of full/family club member
Parent to be present/assisting.
Booking required:
Yes - via SCM - cut off midday Thursday.
Max number:
Unlimited ashore.
RYA ratios on the water to be adhered to, dependent on the number of volunteer instructors each session.
Cost:
Nil. Voluntary contribution if a club boat is used (recommended £3).
Required to run:
Organiser/ shore lead
Dinghy instructors
Safety boat crews
Experienced helm
Launching help from parents
Galley
Parent to ensure all wet gear is hung in the training store
RYA level 1 and 2 courses (2-day)
When:
3 x weekends, May/June, July, Sep
Format:
Practical and theory activities 9-4 for two days + some off-site learning (reading the RYA dinghy sailing syllabus and watching some videos)

When:
Saturday morning. On the water at 10, so arrive by 9.15 to rig boats
Format:
Improvers to rig boats and then sail with safety cover and technique tips. Not an RYA course.

Helm - RYA level 2 or equivalent skills
Able to sail a triangle without coaching and right a boat.
Crew some experience you need to find a helm

Experienced helm/Dinghy instructor
Safety boat helm + Crew - Good opportunity for new helm/crew to learn the job, or from the pool of improvers, or can be the experienced helm/instructor.

Format:
Use of personal or club boats to race or sail. No racing experience required - learn as you go!

No. Unless you require a club boat
Criteria:
RYA level 2 or equivalent skills

Hire if a club boat is used (£25 double hander/ £12 singlehander) - wind speed limits apply

Safety boat helm and crew
Race officer - Can be RO from the safety boat
Assistant race officer - Can be ARO from the safety boat

Bridging the gap between level 1 and improvers
When:
Saturdays - joining improvers as crew - must be in a double hander with a level 2 +

Club cruise
When:
Sundays (mainly c. x3 annually)
Format:
Cruise either east or west along the coast. Often shared boats and an ice-cream stop somewhere. Ideal for the family.

£100 this is a reduced cost for members only who will commit to 4 safety boat duties this year in addition to the three/four voluntary duties that all club members carry out.

Definition of shore lead: In the event of a 'major incident, someone to coordinate the dry side with access to the landline or get the gate opened is useful.
NOTE: Hire charges and voluntary contributions agreed by GC and will not be revisited for the 2025 season.
