Cadets

Saturday afternoons have become the favourite for the Cadet experience over the last couple of weeks. Thus we are hoping that this Saturday afternoon will be no exception. Rigging the boats from 1300, to start sailing at 1400. We will sail into the afternoon, weather permitting. We will also be having conversations about the Christmas Party on the 10th December and thinking about off season monthly events on a Saturday, (after the slipway has been upped). There are very few, (possibly only 1 more) cadet sailing sessions left this season, so let's all try to get onto the water this Saturday. If you wish to bring pack lunches for the afternoon, please do, or if someone would like to do a Fish and Chip run, then we can look into doing that also.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday. Adrian HBSC Cadet Coordinator

KSSA Event Saturday 7th October

HBSC are hosting Kent Schools Sailing Association training on this all day event. Slots are now on SCM. Thank you so much to those who have volunteered their time to help. We still need help in the galley for lunch and afternoon refreshments, and beach control. We also need lots of cakes please!

This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our wonderful club and be part of the sailing community. We are expecting up to 50 boats but we will know definite numbers by next weekend. Please do come on down and support this event, even if its watching from the decking!

We want to encourage as many of our cadets to join in on this excellent training opportunity. HBSC are the hosts for this training, and the training is run by KSSA. So, if you have any queries about the event, please contact KSSA directly. You will need to be a member to join in with the training. Entry deadline is midnight Wednesday 28th September. The event page is here: https://kssa.co.uk/event/2023-autumn-training-1/ and the membership link is here: https://kssa.co.uk/membership/

Slipway Upping

Will take place on Saturday 28th October 6am start. Yes.6am.

Volunteer slots are available for booking on SCM. This involves removal of the slipway, packing and stacking of sections. Galley slots are also available (pretty please) to feed us with caffeine!

In preparation all dinghies on the top park are required to be removed by the 21st October and all other boats along the front are to be removed by the 27th October. Boats left in situ will be moved.

Dinner Dance

Dinner and dance end of year celebration, 25th November 2023. Tickets are £50 pp. This was a really fun event last year and we are really keen to make it as good as, or even better! Tickets are still available.

You can pay for tickets in three ways:

Cash: paid into the bar till. Please put a note in the till with the money so Dave and Jenny know where the extra money has come from.

Sum up machine: Bar or Galley

Bank transfer: HBSC, sort code 40-24-12, Acc No. 61409611, payment Ref. Dinner and Dance.

Whichever method you choose please email Jim and Viv stating how you paid and number of tickets required. We will then add you to the list of attendees and keep you informed of menu etc.

And finally..

I am delighted to announce that the Club has been recognised in the Kent Deaf Children's Society annual Awards. I will be going along on 7th October to the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge together with Nathan and Clare to collect the Trustees Award for the club's work in hosting the deaf children from around the county over a period of years now.

This accolade is great recognition of the efforts of all members who have participated in giving the KDCS children a lovely day out on the water and demonstrating the Club's policy of inclusivity and supporting the local community.
