Volunteering opportunities : Social Event on 9th April

Published 05:30 on 21 Mar 2022

Richard has asked me to take on the volunteering section at our club this year. We have got different ideas in mind to encourage more people to join in the fun. My recent workshop with the RYA was a great source of information and ideas.

With that in mind I would like to invite all members old and new to a social evening on the 9th April from 7pm at HBSC. The bar will be open (Thank you Dave!).

We have identified different categories of volunteering opportunities within the club house, on the water and on shore. Rest assured there is something for everyone!

Each category will have a lead person who will be able to provide information and answer any questions you may have. In addition this person will act as a point of contact to arrange tasters in the area you are interested in.

Although these volunteering opportunities formerly called "duties" are not compulsory, the club will not function without the time so many of you lovely members give. It is quite staggering how much time members invest on top of full time work and kids to facilitate much fun for members on and off the water.

Research shows that not only will you help the club to thrive, but you will gain friendship, learn new skills, laugh( and laugh we do!), improve personal wellbeing and most importantly HAVE FUN (and fun we will have)!!!

So please come along, you will not need to sign your life away, but you may feel inspired to get involved in some way big or small.

I am looking forward to seeing you there, but before I end let me share a little poem with you

It's not for money, it's not for fame.

It's not for personal gain.

It's just for the love of fellow man.

It's just to send a helping hand.

It's just to give a tithe of self.

That something you can't buy with wealth.

It's not medals won with pride.

It's for that feeling deep inside.

It's that reward down in your heart.

It's that feeling you have been a part.

Of helping others far and near.

That makes you want to be a volunteer!

See you on the 9th!

Simone
