KSSA Opening Splash Saturday 20th April

We are hosting this event - it is an all day Regatta for the youth of Kent. Events - KSSA https://kssa.co.uk/event/2024-opening-splash-regat...

This event is now full and we are expecting 55 boats!

Thank you to all those who are supporting this day. There are still galley slots for the afternoon - even if you can help for just an hour, please sign up and let Jo know so we can amend the duty slot (norrington.joanne@gmail.com)

We encourage you to come along and watch if you don't fancy getting involved. Lunches and breakfasts will be available (sign up for a lunch by 10am in the club). We look forward to seeing you there!

London Marathon Sunday 21st April - HBSC local physical challenge

Simone Royer will be running the marathon for Pilgrims Hospice and we would like to support her by having our own physical challenge at the club - how many miles can we clock up between us all?! There will be some Concept-2 Rowing machines, 2 bike turbo trainers and a running total board, along with lots of refreshments, bunting and music! Turn up and do a stint, then add your miles to the running total. If you fancy going for a run or walk then send us through your distance and we will add it to the running total. Sailing miles are heavily encouraged as there are 2 races on that day - how many marathons can we complete!! There will be a charity bucket for any loose change. Start from 9am until.......we run out of energy! If someone would like to do the galley slot that day and feed us cake and left overs from the KSSA event it will be HUGELY appreciated :)

Re-discover Sailing Saturday 4th May 10am

An Open Sailing Session, we would like for all members to bring along their boats and get out sailing! A shake-down session to re-engage with your beloved sport. Instructors and support will be on hand to assist with launch/recovery, safety cover and general on the water support with some coaching if you would like it. Please can some one run the galley for us this day? This session is for those who can sail. Training dates for learning to sail will be published soon.

Phil Rees

Message from Bryony Rees, Phil's wife:

Hello Richard. Thankyou for sending me the latest edition of HSBC news and your lovely note.

I am soldiering on and have finished the pond that I promised to do. Hard work single handed and I even mixed up concrete and laid the slabs. I am sure Phil would like it.

I have wonderful support here and I'm doing ok although tough at times. Julia completed the Brighton Marathon yesterday in just under 4 hours. She did brilliantly and it was an emotional day for all of us.

Please do extend our thanks to the Club for their support. In particular the wonderful get together after the funeral. With best wishes to all at the club. Kind regards Bryony

WhatsApp groups

There are a number of WhatsApp groups that members can join. They are not a formal means of communication but nonetheless, very useful to share interests and chit-chat.

Sailing related chat: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GxkS5XCSChm75tiun3969K

Female Participation: This aim of this group is for female members to mutually support each other and to encourage participation in club on the water activities and volunteering/duties. https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ki783uVEAJPBz7AzELtgWH. This is a very new group and we hope that the people who would like to participate will shape and evolve the group as required.
