Man of Kent 2022

This year's "Man of Kent" regatta was at Broadstairs where HBSC sent a team of three sailors. Numbers might have been curtailed by people on holiday, and the Laser Fest the week before.
Nevertheless our lads did extremely well in trying conditions. There was very little wind and for anyone who has sailed at Broadstairs, there's always plenty of current. Home knowledge certainly plays a big part when sailing on the South Kent coast.
Our team were represented by Mike and Sam Dyer in their 29er, Laurie Dentate and Jo in the Laser 2000 and Guy Alexander in his Laser. This certainly wasn't a day for a Laser 2000 unless your name is Brian Golton with wonder crew Maria. The Goltons always seemed to do well in light conditions with Brian sitting so far forwards it made their boat point a good 5 degrees higher than anyone else.
Mike and Sam did extremely well against boats with a much better handicap in these conditions with a 1st a 3rd and an 8th, with all races to count. Guy, Laurie and Jo also finished in the bottom half of the final scores, which is certainly more than admirable.
